Clawdaddy's Great American Picnic Now Open in Davao

Clawdaddy's-the name itself is enough to draw one's attention to this restaurant which recently opened at SM Lanang Premier. Add in the smiling waiters and waitresses with "the claw" head bands waiting to welcome you, the radiant blue, red and white colors and festive decors, one can't really resist to check out this place. However, Clawdaddy's Great American Picnic is more than just a unique name but it is a restaurant that boasts of a comprehensive menu that includes the best of Cajun seafood cooking. They also include top quality steaks, delectable ribs and generous offerings of tasty appetizers.

Last October 22, we were invited along with fellow bloggers, media and photographers for the blessing and food tasting. Chef Peter Ayson passionately introduced to us the feast that we will be partaking. He explained that the food he prepared for us comes with a twist. And a brilliant twist that is, he played with local flavors and ingredients and mixed it in the Resto's usual offering.

We started off with the Nacho ordinary Nacho which is a tricolor corn chips with jalapeno, guacamole verde and cream cheese from Malagos. It looks and taste appetizing. The Malagos cream cheese is really perfect for the Nachos that I wanted to buy a jar of it to take home.

Next is the Fisherman's Chowder made of fresh local clams, potatoes and leeks, hearty soup with Malagos blue cheese and crackers. The soup is creamy and flavorful.

The we had a teaser of what's to come ahead with the Cajun Shrimp and Pomelo Salad. This salad is a mixture of seared bacon wrapped shrimp, mesclun greens, herbed cruotons, organic tomatoes, passion fruit and pomelo vinaigrette.

Then more seafood fare came in.
Grilled Oysters (Left) which is char grilled freshly shucked oysters with Citrus brown butter.
Clawdaddy's Fish Fry (Right) is a symphony of fried calamari, cornmeal crusted fried clams, blackened red fish and shrimp popcorn.

Seafood Skewers which is a kebab of marinated tuna and malasugi with char grilled lemon herbed vegetables and sunville rice pilaf.

Then we were all taken aback when the Baby Back Ribs was served. It looks big and intimidating but of course we took a bite and another bite until we finished it off. The char grilled baby back ribs is nicely  flavored by the honey and molasses bbq sauce and comes with cabbage slaw and dirty jambalaya rice.

Then the waiters approached us and assisted us in our bibs in preparation for what's to come.

One of the most awaited item on the menu was served. The Boiling Bag which is mixed local clams (one of which is Imbao), shrimps, crabs in clawdaddy mixed seasoning served with new potatoes, corn and soaker bread. It is called the boling bag because they all put the ingredients in the bag and cooked it. The aromas and flavors all trapped in to make a perfect dish. It was opened in front us and it smelled heavenly! It tasted equally great that it became our instant favorite. It was so rich in flavor that the potatoes absorbed the flavors of the ingredients.

The Catch of the day was sneaked in front of us which is a mixture of char grilled clams with lemon butter and soaker bread. It was all so fresh but we loved a particular clam which tasted like brown meat.

Lastly we were served the Crab of the day which is Singaporean shelter crab in chili sauce. It was sweet and spicy and delicious and I'm running out of adjectives.

Just when we thought we were finished, Chef Peter told us that he loved Marang and experimented with it and added it to the Tablea and Coffiee bread pudding which was served next. We are all very full but there's always room for dessert so of course we indulged ourselves.

It was a truly unforgettable feast. Everything we tasted was great! Kudos to the owners and the Chef and all the people behind Clawdaddy's.
