The Legacy of Sumo Sam in Davao

The Legacy of Sumo Sam officially opened it's doors to Dabawenyos last October 7 at SM Lanang Premier. This is their third restaurant in Davao but the first "Legacy" branch.The other branches are located at Abreeza and SM Annex. The Legacy branch is a bit different from the other Sumo Sam because it is exclusive only to SM Premier malls nationwide. Another thing that sets The Legacy of Sumo Sam apart from Sumo Sam is that it will feature guest chefs who will introduce new dishes.The event was graced by (from left to right)  Chef and Davao Operations Head Gemma Herradura,Davao Franchisee Carlo Lorenzana, Owner Raymund Magdaluyo and Co-Owner and Celebrity Chef Marvin Agustin.

The media including the Davao Bloggers had a chance to dine and chat with them. We are very happy to note that Davao is their first branch outside of Metro Manila. According to Sir Raymund who have been frequenting Davao for business and leisure they conducted surveys and studies on Davao's competitiveness and the result showed that Davao is indeed ready for restaurants like Sumo Sam. The sales so far on their existing branches have shown favorable results. They are planning to open other restaurants in Davao probably an Italian one by next year. Another thing that should make Dabawenyos happy is that their dishes are priced lower compared to Metro Manila since most of the raw materials are available here.They have also items on their menu which is exclusive to their Davao branch. Wow they surely love Davao and what can we say, after sampling their dishes I'm pretty sure Davao will love them too.We were able to try the following;
Sumo Sam's Pride- a perfect starter for a meal.It is green salad with Grilled Prawns,Mango & Walnuts. We love it! It is such an interesting mix of flavors.
Sumo Sam's Pride

Chicken Teriyaki which is one of our all time favorite Japanese dish; Ebi Tempura, Vegetable Kakiage and Kisu Tempura were also served. These are typical Japanese fare and Sumo Sam was able to cook it just right.
 Chicken Sesame which looks "innocent and sweet" but is really spicy that it became one our instant favorite.
Chicken Sesame

Roll Call! Clockwise Crunchy Tuna Roll, California Maki, Dynamite Roll and Mt. Apo Roll.
One thing we observed about Sumo Sam is that they are not afraid to experiment and mix unlikely ingredients to come up with extraordinary dishes. The Rolls that we love most are the Dynamite Roll because it is hot (we love hot and spicy if that isn't obvious yet) and the Mt. Apo Roll which is exclusive to their Davao branch. Mt. Apo roll is a must try because it has Durian which is really unique and with just the right quantity to not overpower the entire roll.
A store opening wouldn't be complete without ribbon cutting ceremony however, Sumo Sam has a tradition of cutting Maki instead of ribbon. Well it make sense because makis are edible and more tasty than ribbons ;)

Sumo Sam is a casual dining Japanese restaurant that serves steak, seafood, sushi and more.  It is such a welcome addition to the food dining choices of Dabawenyos.
